FAQ
What news does the service cover?
On a typical day there are around 100 headlines monitored across a broad spectrum of categories. Filters on the product allow you to home in on your key areas of interest. These range from research results and grant funding through to awards and personnel changes. In total we have over 40 different categories you can filter the news on ranging from specific types of news through to different subject areas.
How many sources are tracked?
We currently track all UK universities and notable colleges in the UK which total 171. In addition we track ~50 research institutes and other significant players within higher education including Office for Students, Universities UK and the Higher Education Policy Institute. All headlines will take you to the source website so you can read the full article published by the relevant institution.
How often is the news updated?
New news articles are tracked throughout the day from each different source with new news headlines being added to the site as they are picked up.
How do we categorise our stories?
Our story categories are carefully selected based on topics we believe will captivate and engage our audience. Each story is then tagged with relevant categories through a thoughtful process aimed at highlighting subjects likely to interest our readers. It's important to note that categorising text inherently involves a degree of subjectivity. What one person finds fascinating or relevant, another may not. Our goal is to cover a broad spectrum of interests, hoping to offer something valuable for everyone.
Can I be alerted about new stories of interest to me?
HE News Hub includes email alerts which you can set up based on any filters you have saved on the service. Filters are made on keywords in articles, specific news sources or certain categories of news. There are three types of alert you can create:
• Instant Alert: Get an email as soon as a new story is uploaded that meets your alert criteria (all news stories are typically picked up within 30 minutes of being posted to the relevant site)
• Daily Summary: You'll receive an email at the start of each day letting you know the headlines of all stories uploaded during the previous day that meet your alert criteria.
• Weekly Summary: Receive an email every Friday giving you a summary of all the headlines from the previous week which have met your alert criteria.
You can create as many alerts as you like and edit or delete your alerts whenever you like using the filter options.
How is your service different from other higher education news services out there?
While other services may produce commentary on developments in higher education, HE News Hub is the only service dedicated to delivering the news of every major university and higher education institution in the UK as it's published at source, making it the only place to stay truly up-to-date. The power of HE News Hub lies in its aggregation of hundreds of sources of news to deliver on comprehension, and in its categorisation of news to ensure you can easily discover articles of interest.
Can I try the service before paying for a subscription?
Absolutely! You can trial our Silver subscription tier for free for a month so you can explore the service and see if it's for you. If at the end of your trial you decide not to take out a paid subscription, you can still have free access to our Bronze tier, which tracks all the same headlines but offers less functionality. With the additional features, we think you'll find our Silver and Gold tiers well worth the investment!
Can I get access for our whole company or university?
If you'd like to have access for your whole organisation drop us an email and we'd love to discuss the options to give everybody access to the same insights. We can offer single sign-on (SSO) functionality, which helps maximise the value captured by your staff and enable easy access to the service.
What happens when my free trial ends?
Your free trial grants you access to our Silver Tier services for 30 days, offering comprehensive news access and functionality. This period allows you to integrate our services into your daily routine or use them occasionally to research content. If you do not enter your payment details by the trial's end, you will not be charged, and your account will automatically downgrade to the Bronze Tier. In the Bronze Tier, you can access all daily content, but most of the enhanced features available during the trial will be restricted. To continue enjoying the full benefits of the Silver Tier, you can upgrade at any time by navigating to Settings > Subscription and purchasing a full subscription.
